Hi all. I'm trying to edit the bandwidth monitor to show my upload/download more app to my speed.

this is a snap of my /sbin/lcd file

my $IFACE   = 'eth0';                   # -> What is the interface you want to $

my $UPBITS      = 768;                  # -> What's the maximum
upload
rate in kbits/second of your line?
my $DOWNBITS    = 20000;                # -> What's the maximum downlaod
rate in kbits/second of your line?

This is a copy of the error:

root@VelociRaptor:~ # lcd -loop
Bareword found where operator expected at /sbin/lcd line 78, near "rate in kbits/second"
  (Might be a runaway multi-line // string starting on line 76)
        (Do you need to predeclare rate?)
Illegal octal digit '8' at /sbin/lcd line 74, at end of line
Global symbol "$DOWNBITS" requires explicit package name at /sbin/lcd line 76.
syntax error at /sbin/lcd line 78, near "rate in kbits/second of "
Global symbol "$USE_HEART" requires explicit package name at /sbin/lcd line 78.
Global symbol "$HEART_COL" requires explicit package name at /sbin/lcd line 78.
Global symbol "$HEART_ROW" requires explicit package name at /sbin/lcd line 78.
Execution of /sbin/lcd aborted due to compilation errors.
8, near "rate in kbits/second" found where operator expected at /sbin/lcd line 7
-bash: Bareword: command not found
  (Might be a runaway multi-line // string starting on line 76)

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers.

What did you use as an editor?

i do beleive i used pico? i think the command i typed was:

pico \sbin\lcd

and the first time i opened it, hit ctrl+o (write out) and saved it as \sbin\lcdbak so if i screwed it up i could simply open that one and write out to \sbin\lcd.

Am i using the wrong thing? Very new to linux so looking at forums and making google searches for "how to...xx..linux command"

which seams to getting through it slowly. might be simple but managed to copy files over the serial cable last night, which i was very happy with. in four days i have managed to flash the cmos, install RaQCop, and figure out basic changes, so quite happy with that. (i know its slow progress)

Cheers.

i feel really stupid, i seam to be answering my own questions.

i used vi /sbin/lcd

used the insert and saved the file. all sorted now.

eth0 = Green
eth1 = Red

the only thing i am noticing is that on the front of the firewall it says DL is at 1203 but i am showing a speed of 775 on the laptop.

One more quick question:

can i make the display swap between bandwidth monitor and say a custom message like "FIREWALL DO NOT TOUCH"

and keep it switching between the two?

Cheers.

Depends on what you have set as the nic. I always monitor red as I do not care about the rate between the firewall and anything on lan. All the rate setting does is set the bar graph so it maxes when your connection maxes. The numbers do not reflect anything other than what they see on the monitored nic.

As far as alternating it, I hadn't looked into cycling it. You can input text to both lines at any time and it will override the display temporarily and shortly it will return to normal since it is running in a loop. Cron could be set to do this at a specified interval if you wish.

If you wish to use Cron to send text to it every minute or something, I can help you with that.

yes its the red interface i am monitoring, but its close enough, so i dont care. lol.

if you could help me out that would be fantastic, you'll have to slow and gentle with me though, as i suck at this, learning very slowing, i've always been a windows man. Cheers.

is it possible ti use the buttons at all? even if it just to view info, rather than edit (like originally planned.) so view each interface IP, Subnet. view dhcp scope, and dhcp leases etc? i know i'm being very fussy now. sorry.

THANKYOU!!

Not in it's present form, no. Truthfully, no work has been done on it since 1.5 years ago. Some functionality would be nice but not too much unless we defaulted it to a locked front panel which was an option with the original Cobalt utilities.

With IPCop 2.0 in beta form, much of my work has been keeping a running Cobalt friendly version based off of the svn revisions and trying to contribute or suggest changes where possible to the developers list.

 The 1.4.22/23 pair has been in cvs with periodic commits since 2008. I have been keeping a raqcop 1.4.23 cvs tree and upgrading it along with the ipcop cvs commits since then. It would be trivial to have a Raqcop version uploaded by the time IPCop-1.4.23 gets to the mirrors if I happen to be home at that moment. I do not know the plan of how long the 1.4 branch will be maintained after 2.0 gets out.

ok thats fair enough, so does that mean that there will be a new version of RaqCop out soon? one other quick question, not related to lcd or buttons, but is it possible to forward port 80 to multiple devices bassed on their url?

i.e. woods.dyndns.org/outside - going to 192.168.10.248
and woods.dyndns.org/gardern - going to 192.168.10.247

These are two seperate network webcams, and i would like to have them both on port 80 (due to restrictions at work) can this be done with raqcop or do i need to setup a server and install IIS?

i would rather not have another box running all the time, my media centre is my media server also, and shared media, but i do not want that in a DMZ or to be public facing as it has pics of my children on.

Cheers.

Not sure about soon or not. Since this is first and foremost IPCop adapted to run on Cobalt hardware, everything is purely dependent on what happens in the IPCop community.

As far as port forwarding or anything not specific to Cobalt hardware or it's unique boot process, the IPCop community collectively is the place to look. There are quite a lot of IPCop addons out there as well. There is only one addon already built into Raqcop 1.4.21 and that is Tom (Wintermute) Eichstaedt's System Information addon which is also an integral part of IPCop 2.

I run a few IPCop addons myself such as Advanced Proxy (Also standard in IPCop 2), Urlfilter, Extra Graphs, and Coptime. Just don't go overboard and install every addon you can find regardless of whether or not you need the extra features.
